Helix welcomed Jessica Atkinson, just returning from NYC, as a guest teacher on Mach 9th. Dancers enjoyed an innovative & rigorous masterclass with this young artist. We will look forward to welcoming her back to work with the company
Jessica began her dance training at Parksville Ballet School. In grade 10 she moved to vancouver to join the Arts Umbrella SPARTS program. She continued there for 4 years and completed the Arts Umbrella/VCC Graduate Program. She has participated in Springboard Danse de Montreal where she got to work with the Rubberbandance company and perform. She has recently apprenticed for Gallim Dance in New York and is now teaching various classes in the Island and Vancouver. |

Friday, February 17th, Helix will host a guest teacher. Our guest, Geneva Jenkins grew up on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia,Canada. She spent summers training at the Juilliard School and at Alonzo King at LINES Ballet and attended the Alvin Ailey School. Geneva has worked with many artists including Joe Laughlin, Wen Wei Wang, Sidra Bell, and Nathan Trice. Jenkins toured Italy as a cast member of Daniel Ezralow’s show: “Why B.” She worked with Donald Byrd in Spectrum Dance Theater from 2008-2010. Jenkins has acted as rehearsal director and assistant to former William Forsythe dancer, Francesca Harper. Most recently working with Francesca Harper in the creation of a new ballet for Dance Theater of Harlem. Jenkins has taught dance, assisted, and created with choreographers in Europe, the Caribbean, the United States and Canada. |

Fans of contemporary dance were treated to some thrilling performances at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo Saturday night. The Red Nocturnal is the latest creation of dance artist Joshua Beamish and the MOVE company, and is sure to rock the contemporary ballet world. The MOVE company invited Parksville’s Helix Dance Theatre, The KYDC Dancers from Nanaimo, the True Colours Youth Group from Courtenay, and Fizzik’l out of Victoria to open the performance, as a means of connecting local emerging performers with the professional artists of our province. Helix is happy to announce auditions for the 2011-2012 Dance Season.
We are auditioning dancers, ages 13 and up, to participate in an Audition Master Class, led by Mike McInnes.
Participants must be prepared to perform an additional 2-3 minute solo piece.
Audition Participation Cost: $15
